Edinburgh Castle Reviews

Visitors often highlight the castle’s dramatic setting, fascinating history, impressive views, and the variety of things to see inside. From the Crown Jewels and historic halls to military exhibitions and panoramic viewpoints, Edinburgh Castle offers plenty to explore in a single visit.

I booked my ticket in advance and was glad I did because the castle was quite busy when I arrived. The Crown Jewels were the highlight for me, but I also really enjoyed walking through the Great Hall and the Royal Palace. The views over Edinburgh were incredible. I spent almost three hours there and never felt rushed.

This was one of the places I was most excited to visit in Edinburgh, and it lived up to my expectations. There is much more inside the castle than I realised, so I would definitely recommend allowing at least a couple of hours. I especially enjoyed the military exhibitions and seeing Mons Meg. The whole site feels full of history.

I visited in the morning and found it easy to explore most areas before the crowds became heavier. St Margaret’s Chapel was probably my favourite part because it felt so different from the larger buildings around it. I also loved the views from the castle walls. Comfortable shoes are definitely a good idea because there are plenty of slopes and uneven surfaces.

The castle was one of the highlights of my trip to Edinburgh. I arrived early enough to explore several attractions before watching the One o’Clock Gun. The Royal Palace and Crown Jewels were especially interesting, and the exhibitions added a lot of context. I would happily visit again because there was a lot to take in.

I expected a quick visit, but ended up spending much longer here than planned. There are so many different rooms, exhibitions, viewpoints, and historic areas to explore. The panoramic views across the city were fantastic, especially from the higher sections of the castle. Booking ahead made the visit feel much easier and more organised.

I really enjoyed how the castle combines impressive architecture with stories from different periods of Scottish history. The Great Hall was particularly memorable, and the views alone made the visit worthwhile. I took my time walking around and spent about two and a half hours inside. It is definitely a place where you benefit from not rushing.
